A photo of Singapore Girl Barbies has netizens talking. While a handful commented on the style of the dolls, a few focused on their hair, with one user even drawing a comparison to the infamous Rosmah Mansor.
On Sunday, October 16, an online user took to an online news forum to share a photo of two Barbies with a tag reading “Singapore Girl Barbie”. Both dolls wore traditional Singaporean airline uniforms, one blue and the other green.
According to another online user who left a comment, the photo is from the Barbie exhibit at ION Orchard Road, Level 4.
On the other hand, another netizen commented that the figures representing Singaporean women had rather long necks. “That scares me a bit, not gonna lie,” said another.
Others have commented on the dolls’ hair. “What’s going on with aunt’s hair?” one asked. Another took it further by referencing a well-known name, writing: ‘What’s with that Rosmah hair?’
Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, is renowned for her extravagance and luxury. The infamous pair were at the center of the notorious 1MDB scandal.
“(The) 1980s were all about big hair, big shoulder pads, and well, larger than life bigger,” explained another user.
Over 600 Barbies are on display at the House of Dreams Barbie exhibit at the ION Art Gallery. People can visit for free from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until October 21.
