PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for hanging an African-American doll from a lamppost using a noose.
The doll was discovered around February 14 on Brushton Avenue in Homewood North.

At a Thursday afternoon news conference, police said they reviewed surveillance video from the area and interviewed all utility company employees who had access to the pole.

“If you had had a minority, African Americans working here, I guarantee you wouldn’t have had a baby on a lamppost hanging from a noose,” said state Rep. Ed Gainey.
Police also said they have the doll in their lab for testing.
“We are not going to tolerate hate. We are not going to allow people to bully us, hang dolls from lamp posts or paint swastikas on our streets,” said Dan Gillman, chief of staff of the Mayor Bill Peduto. .
