Experience a unique culture at the Gullah Doll House Open House this weekend in Hilton Head

This weekend you have the chance to see a special exhibition of Gullah art and meet the artists behind the work. The Art League Academy in Hilton Head on Saturday will host a Gullah Doll House Open House featuring Kerrie Brown and other local artists. All artists are natives of Hilton Head and descendants of Gullah who assemble dolls to tell a story. They will be giving free demonstrations during the open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Art League on Cordillo Parkway. You will also have the option of purchasing a doll, along with a birth certificate, to take home. Art is a way for people to come into contact with cultures different from their own. They are able to see. They are able to understand. They are able to feel through art,” said Amy Wehrman, director of the academy. If you can’t make it to Saturday’s open house, the dolls will be on display at the Art League Academy until June 3.
