Barbie turns Tina Turner into a doll and celebrates the 40th anniversary of THAT hit song

Barbie’s Mattel is paying tribute to Tina Turner by releasing a doll in the likeness of the singer to celebrate the anniversary of her hit song “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

According to reports, the Tina Turner Barbie doll will retail for $55 and will show the singer in her signature music video look – the denim jacket, sparkly top, black miniskirt and fishnet stockings, paired with a pair of black heels .

Of course, it wouldn’t be an ’80s Tina Turner look if the doll didn’t sport her signature spiky hair. There was no shortage of small details in her music video look, as Mattel added the pear earrings and diamond necklace she saw wearing in the “What’s Love Got To Do With It” music video.

Turner showed her gratitude and appreciation for the recognition by releasing a statement regarding the announcement of the Barbie Tine Turner doll.

“I am honored to welcome my Barbie to the group of pioneering women already represented and to introduce my journey to more children,” it read.

The Barbie Tina Turner doll will be available on Mattel’s online store and at retail stores like Amazon, Walmart and Target, according to reports.

Massive success

“What’s Love Got To Do With It” is a single from Turner’s fifth studio album, “Private Dancer”, released in 1984. It became one of his most successful singles to date.

The song peaked at number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide. The song was released when the “queen of rock ‘n roll” was in her 40s, making her the oldest female solo artist to top the chart.

On top of that, Turner also received three Grammy wins for “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The fan-favorite song also earned a spot in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Although it was released 38 years ago, it remains one of Turner’s biggest hits and a song that fans return to again and again.

Turner is no longer actively making music, however, she just released “TINA” in 2021, an HBO documentary about her life.

Turner is no stranger to success, and her life has turned into a work of art, as a musical about her, “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” has begun. He received a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical in 2020.

“I don’t dwell on recognition,” Turner told Essence. “I have always received so much love and support from my fans.”

“What they think of my music, whether a song touches them or inspires them, makes them happy or just makes them want to sing and dance, that’s what’s important to me.”
